Warming Autumn Crumble

Ingredients:

  • 100 gm whole meal flour
  • 50 gm margarine, diced
  • 100 gm light brown sugar
  • 25 gm flaked almonds
  • 225 gm plums, quartered and stoned (pitted)
  • 450 gm tart apples, sliced
  • Grated rind and juice of 1 small orange
  • Custard Sauce to serve

Method:

  1. Put the flour in a bowl. Add the margarine and rub in with the fingertips until the mixture resembles breadcrumbs. Stir in half the sugar.
  2. In a separate bowl, mix the almonds with the plums, apples and orange rind and juice. Stir in the remaining sugar.
  3. Turn into an ovenproof dish. Sprinkle the crumble over and press down lightly. Bake in a preheated oven at 190°C/ 375°F/gas mark 5 for about 45 minutes until golden brown and cooked through.
  4. Serve hot with Custard Sauce.
