Daal Palatal by Zarnak Sidhwa

Ingredients:

  • Chopped onion 1 large
  • Cubed potatoes 2
  • Fresh ginger 1 inch
  • Garlic 6 cloves
  • Coriander 2 tsp
  • Garam masala 1 tbsp
  • Red chili powder 2 tsp
  • Chopped tomatoes 2-3
  • Spinach 2 bunches
  • Red lentils 1 cup
  • Chicken stock or Water 3 cups
  • Salt 1 tsp
  • Spring onions 3-4
  • Oil 2 tbsp

Method:

  1. Heat oil.
  2. Add onions and salt and cook until onions are translucent.
  3. Add potatoes and cook.
  4. Next add ginger, garlic and spices.
  5. Add chopped tomatoes, spinach and lentils.
  6. Stir to combine everything and then add 3 cups water or chicken stock.
  7. Boil and then it simmer until lentils and potatoes are cooked through.
  8. Stir in half of chopped spring onions, reserving rest to use as garnish.
  9. Serve daal with rice, naan or chapati.
