Cholay Chana Daal

Ingredients:

  • Chickpeas 2 cups
  • Chana daal 1 cup
  • Tea bags 2
  • Turmeric powder 1/2 tsp
  • Salt to taste
  • Oil 2 tbsp
  • Cumin 1 tsp
  • Garlic 8-10 cloves
  • Green chilies 2
  • Chopped onion slice 2
  • Red chili powder 1 tsp
  • Coriander powder 1 tbsp
  • Fenugreek powder 1/2 tsp
  • Cholay masala 2 tbsp
  • Dry mango powder 2 tsp
  • All spice powder 1 tsp
  • Capsicum julienne for garnish
  • Fresh mint leaves for garnish

Method:

  1. Cook chickpeas and chana daal with 1/4 tsp turmeric powder, salt and little water in pressure cooker for 8-10 minutes.
  2. When pressure is completed, remove cover, cool it and strain it.
  3. Heat oil in pan and saute cumin, garlic and green chilies for 1 minute.
  4. Now add onion and saute until golden.
  5. Now add remaining turmeric powder, red chili powder, coriander powder, fenugreek powder, cholay masala and dry mango powder and saute it nicely.
  6. Now add 2 cup water and salt.
  7. Then add cooked chickpeas and daal, mix it nicely and mash with back of ladle.
  8. Now add all spice powder and cook for 1 minute nicely.
  9. Then cover it and cook for 5-10 minutes or till water dries.
  10. Now garnish with capsicum and mint leaves and serve.

Cholay Chana Daal is wonderful dish. The combination of chickpeas & chana dal is amazing. You can serve it in breakfast with roti or paratha or puri.
