Balti Daal Desi Tarka by Rida Aftab

Ingredients:

  • Boiled gram lentils 1-1/2 cup
  • Boiled white lentils 1 cup
  • Tomato 250 gm
  • Turmeric 1 tsp
  • Red chili 1-1/2 tsp
  • Jaggery 1 tbsp
  • Onion 1
  • Mustard seeds 1 tsp
  • Salt 1/2 tsp
  • Oil 4 tbsp

For Desi Tarka:

  • Onion 1
  • Garlic cloves 4
  • Curry leaves 4
  • Cumin seeds 1 tsp
  • Desi ghee 1/2 cup
  • Green chili, Green coriander as required

Method:

  1. First heat oil in a pot and do onion golden brown.
  2. Then put tomatoes, turmeric, red chili powder, jaggery, mustard seeds and 1/2 cup water and cover it.
  3. When tender, add boiled gram lentil and boiled white lentil and cook for 10 minutes.
  4. After that, take out in dish and put green chilies and green coriander.
  5. For desi tarka: Heat desi ghee and do onion brown.
  6. Then add garlic cloves, curry leaves and cumin seeds.
  7. When fragrance comes, then put in lentil.
  8. Delicious balti daal desi tarka is ready.

  • Tried balti dal tarka. I used 3/4 cup dal mash and 1/2 cup channa dal for this recipe.It turned out excellent.
