Daal Makhani by Zarnak Sidhwa

Ingredients:

  • Whole urad daal 1/2 cup
  • Kidney beans 1/4 cup
  • Tomatoes pureed 3
  • Onions chopped 2
  • Chili powder 1 tsp
  • Coriander powder 1/2 tsp
  • All spices powder 1/2 tsp
  • Turmeric powder 1/2 tsp
  • Cloves 2-3
  • Cardamom 2
  • Bay leaf 1
  • Green chilies 2
  • Grated ginger 1/2 tsp
  • Salt to taste
  • Butter 4 tbsp
  • Cream 1/2 cup
  • Kasoori methi 1 tbsp

Method:

  1. Drain soaked urad daal and add to pressure cooker.
  2. Add 4 cups water and pressure cool till it is cooked thoroughly and very soft.
  3. Heat butter, temper with cumin, green chilies, cloves, bay leaf and cardamom.
  4. Add ginger and saute well for 3-4 minutes.
  5. Add onion and saute for 5-7 minutes until transparent.
  6. Add tomato puree and mix well.
  7. Saute and cook for 5-6 minutes.
  8. Add chili powder, all spice powder, turmeric powder and coriander powder.
  9. Mix well and cook till butter starts to release from sides.
  10. Now add entire masala to urad daal.
  11. Mix well, add salt and 1/4 cup water
  12. Cook for 10-15 minutes till daal thickens and turns creamy.
  13. Add cream and mix well.
  14. Cook for 3-4 minutes.
  15. Add kasoori methi and remove from flame.

Daal Makhani is Healthy Dish with excellent source of Protein. It is common dish of Pakistan. It is prepared with Urad Daal, Kidney Beans, Spices & Cream and served hot with Plain Rice or Roti.
