Fruit Chaat Recipes

Fruit chaat is “desi” alternative to what the west calls fruit salad. Its recipe has been tweaked according to the taste of the desi people. Fruit chaat is served widely in Pakistan especially in Ramadan. In Ramadan, every aftaar table is incomplete without fruit chaat.

Every household has their own way of making fruit chaat. Some prefer it spicy while other wants it sweet. Thus according to the personal likings fruit chaat has different recipes.

Juicy Fruity Chaat:

This is one of the variations of conventional fruit chaat.

Ingredients:

  • Mangoes 2-3
  • Seasonal fruit 250 gm
  • Orange juice 1 cup
  • Sugar as required
  • Cream 1 cup
  • Salt to taste
  • Brown sugar 3-4 tbsp
  • Cumin seeds (crushed) 1/2 tsp
  • Crushed black pepper 1/2 tsp
  • Black salt 1/2 tsp

Method:

  1. Wash all the fruits before cutting
  2. Cut all the fruits into small cubes.
  3. To make sauce take a bowl and put orange juice, sugar, brown sugar, cream, cumin seeds, black salt, crushed black pepper and cream.
  4. Mix all of them together until all ingredients are properly incorporated.
  5. Take a serving dish and first put the fruit.
  6. Now put the sauce over it, make sure it covers the fruit in all places.
  7. Serve chilled.

Creamy Fruit Chaat

Ingredients:

  • Apple cubes 2
  • Fruit cocktail 1 tin
  • Fresh cream 2 packet
  • Finely chopped bananas 2
  • Water 1/2 cup
  • Peach 1 tin
  • Peeled & finely chopped walnuts 1 cup
  • Sugar 1 cup

Method:

  1. Take a pan and pour water into it. Add sugar and mix well to make sugar syrup on low flame.
  2. Let it cool down for a while.
  3. When the syrup has cooled down add chopped apples, chopped bananas, chopped peaches and all the fruits from the fruit cocktail tin pack
  4. Mix them well and keep it in fridge
  5. At the time of serving put fresh cream over it and sprinkle walnuts.
  6. Your creamy fruit chaat is ready to serve.

TIPS

  1. Fruits are themselves sweet so don’t add a lot of sugar so that it doesn’t get very sweet.
  2. Fruits like apples and bananas tend to turn dark quickly, in order to prevent it add lemon juice. This will not let them turn dark.
  3. Wash all the fruits thoroughly before using.
  4. Always keep cream in the freezer for half an hour before whipping; this will make it frothy quickly.
