Dahi Baray Recipes

Dahi baray is one of the traditional recipes of the south of Asia. It is very popular among the masses and is served as a snack at tea parties or iftar. It is one of the easiest recipes and very less time consuming. This dish is ideal for beginners who are still learning how to cook.

Bread Dahi Baray


  • Oil for frying
  • Sugar 1/4 tsp
  • Bread slice 3
  • Garlic 1/2 tsp
  • Yogurt 250 gm
  • Salt 1/4 tsp

For Batter:

  • Gram flour 1/2cup
  • Baking soda 1/4 tsp
  • Water as required
  • Salt 1/4 tsp
  • Cumin 1tsp
  • Chili powder 1 tsp

For Red Chutney:

  • Tamarind pulp 2 tbsp
  • Water as required
  • Sugar 3 tbsp
  • Cumin 1 tbsp
  • Salt 1/4 tsp


  1. Take a dish and cut bread slices in round shape
  2. Now make the batter put gram flour, baking soda, salt, cumin, chili powder and then water.
  3. Then add garlic, salt, sugar, and yogurt and keep it aside.
  4. Take a wok and heat oil in it.
  5. Dip the bread slices in the batter one by one and put it in the oil
  6. Deep fry them until they turn golden brown.
  7. Now take them out and put them in water and yogurt mixture.
  8. Let them be soaked until they become soft.
  9. Make red chutney now.
  10. Mix all the ingredients together and red chutney is ready
  11. Put them in the yogurt and put red chutney over it.
  12. Serve chilled.

Dahi Baray


  • White lentil 1 bowl
  • Salt to taste
  • Green gram 1 bowl
  • Yogurt 1 kg
  • Chaat masala as required
  • Onions 1
  • Garlic cloves 4
  • Oil for frying
  • Almonds 10
  • Tamarind sweet chutney as required
  • Fresh milk 1 small packet
  • Soda bi carb 1 tsp
  • Sugar as required
  • Corn flour 1 tbsp


  1. Wash white lentils and green lentils and soak them in water for two o three hours.
  2. After the lentils have become soft grind them in a chopper.
  3. Add garlic and onion in the chopper and spin once more.
  4. Then mix soda bi carb, salt, almonds and spin it again.
  5. Take a bowl put some water in it. Add yogurt and mix it.
  6. Take a wok pan and heat oil in it.
  7. Put small blobs of the batter into hot oil and let them fry
  8. Stir them while they are frying.
  9. When they are golden brown take them out and put them in water with yogurt
  10. Let them be soaked in water until they become soft.
  11. When they become soft squeeze the water out of them
  12. Put them in yogurt
  13. Garnish with almonds, chaat masala and tamarind chutney
  14. Serve when chilled.

Donut Dahi Baray


For Baray:

  • White gram 1/2 kg
  • Baking soda 1/3 tsp
  • Rice flour as required
  • Salt to taste
  • Garlic paste 1 tsp
  • Oil for frying
  • Cumin powder 1 tsp

For Masala:

  • Whole red chilies 5-6
  • Salt to taste
  • Whole black pepper corns 1 tsp
  • Black salt 1/2 tsp
  • Cumin seeds 1 tbsp

For Green Chutney:

  • Tamarind paste 1/2 cup
  • Salt to taste
  • Green chilies 5-6
  • Mint leaves 1 bunch

For Red Chutney:

  • Tomato paste 1/2 cup
  • Garlic 3-4
  • Salt to taste
  • Red chili powder 1 tsp

For Garnish:

  • Chaat masala 1 tsp
  • Yogurt 1/2 kg
  • Corn flour 1 tsp


  1. Soak white lentil in water with soda overnight
  2. In the morning grind them in chopper.
  3. Add rice flour, salt, cumin and garlic paste.
  4. Mix well.
  5. Take a wok pan and heat oil in it.
  6. Put oil in your hands and make doughnut shape baray out of the paste.
  7. Put them in oil and fry one by one
  8. Take them out. Baray are ready,
  9. Make chutney: put all the ingredients in grinder and spin it. Green chutney is ready.
  10. Make masala by grinding all the ingredients.
  11. Put yogurt in a bowl and beat nicely
  12. Add corn flour.
  13. Now add baray.
  14. Sprinkle chutney and masala
  15. Serve when chilled.
