Ginger Chicken Recipe

Ginger Chicken is very common and popular recipe in Pakistan restaurants. Try this recipe at home for change.


  • Boneless chicken 2 kg
  • Yogurt beaten 1/2 cup
  • Ginger paste 1 tbsp
  • Garlic paste 1 tbsp
  • Onion slices 4 small
  • Spring onion 2
  • Tomatoes chopped 4
  • Coriander leaves 1/4 bunch
  • Green chilies 5-6
  • Ginger julienne 2 inch
  • Red chili powder 1-1/2 tsp
  • Garam masala 1 tbsp
  • White pepper 1 tbsp
  • Cumin powder 1 tbsp
  • Cumin seeds 1 tbsp
  • Black cardamom 2
  • Cinnamon 1
  • Black pepper 8-10
  • Green cardamom 5
  • Cloves 8
  • Orange food color 1/4 tsp
  • Salt to taste
  • Black pepper powder to taste
  • Oil 1/2 cup


  1. Heat oil in pan on high flame, add ginger paste and garlic paste and mix it.
  2. Then add tomatoes and mix it.
  3. Then add black cardamom, cinnamon, black pepper, green cardamom and cloves and cook until tomatoes tender.
  4. Now add chicken and mix it.
  5. Then add salt, orange food color, red chili powder, cumin powder, cumin seeds and white pepper and cook on high flame until color of chicken changes.
  6. Then add few ginger julienne and onion slices and cook for 2 to 3 minutes.
  7. Now add yogurt and mix it nicely.
  8. The cover it and cook it for 10 minutes on medium flame.
  9. When water of yogurt & chicken dries, add spring onions, green chilies and garam masala and simmer it for 1 to 2 minutes.
  10. Then take out in serving bowl, garnish with coriander leaves and remaining ginger julienne and serve hot with naan and raita.

Ginger Chicken is tasty main course dish. Tomatoes, spices, chicken, ginger, onion and yogurt are cooked in oil. Then simmered with spring onion, green chilies and garam masala. Then garnished with ginger & coriander leaves and served hot with naan and raita.
