Ingredients:

  • Butter 1 cup
  • Icing sugar 1-1/2 cups
  • Vanilla essence 1 tsp
  • Eggs 4
  • Semolina 4 cup
  • Baking powder 1 tsp
  • Baking soda 1 tsp
  • Yogurt 2 cups
  • Almonds (lightly boiled, long chopped) as required

For Syrup:

  • Water 1 cup
  • Sugar 1 cup
  • Honey 1 cup
  • Lemon juice 1/4 cup

Method:

  1. Beat butter and icing sugar until light and fluffy.
  2. Now add eggs one by one and beat more.
  3. Then add vanilla essence, semolina, baking soda and baking powder and fold yogurt in it.
  4. Now spread in greased rectangle dish and put almonds like that, when you cut cake, almonds comes in center.
  5. Then bake on 180 degrees C for 40 minutes, take it out and cool it.
  6. Now put ready syrup, so that it dissolves in it.
  7. For syrup: Mix all ingredients and cook for 10 minutes.
  8. Now cool it on room temperature and fold on hot cake.
  9. Cut cake into square pieces and serve.

Basbousa is an Arabian Cuisine. It is traditional Middle Eastern Sweet Cake Dessert. It is prepared with Semolina, soaked in Syrup and topped with Almonds.
